Creativity in discgolf makes the game very interesting. Standard ways to throw a disc may limit its flight towards the basket. I always ask my students to be very creative with their throws. There are very few standard throws to master, but when your disc falls between thick tree lines, non-standard throws, unusual body twists, arm angles and a lot of body English make a creative shot to the clear green or even the goal!
There, I’ve spilled the beans. One of the best-kept secrets in disc golf is creativity. You need to be a very imaginative, thoughtfully intense disc golf athlete to throw the disc closer to the goal… or to actually make the goal.
Most sports would nudge the player to the standard ways of making the shot. However, disc golf … well take a look at a few names that pro players throw:
- The Blow Fly throw – the foldable putter shot
- The Pterodactyl throw
- The Turbo putt
- The Revolver
- The Scoober putt
- Forehand warmup
Or how about how standard throws are made, uniquely executed by the pros:
- The Forehand by Jake Lauber
- The Forehand by Casey Cox
- The Forehand and Backhand by Eric Oakley
